Managing vehicle energy use based on future energy demand

A method comprising:

• generating, by an analytics engine of a system, a driving strategy for a traveling route of a train based on saved data in the system for optimizing one or more aspects for the train over the traveling route, the train comprising at least one battery-electric locomotive (BEL);
• operating, by a locomotive control system of the system, the train according to the driving strategy;
• receiving, by an energy management system of the system, update data associated with a current location of the train;
• revising, by the analytics engine, the driving strategy based on the saved data and the update data, for optimizing energy consumption efficiency for a segment of the traveling route associated with the current location, including:
• identifying active powered components of the train that are non-essential for traversing the segment, and
• turning off power to one or more of the identified active powered components for a duration of traversing the segment;
• and
• operating, by the locomotive control system, the train according to the revised driving strategy.

Non-transitory computer-readable medium storing thereon processor-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a system, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• generating, by an analytics engine of a system, a driving strategy for a traveling route of a train based on saved data in the system for optimizing one or more aspects for the train over the traveling route, the train comprising at least one battery-electric locomotive (BEL);
• operating, by a locomotive control system of the system, the train according to the driving strategy;
• receiving, by an energy management system of the system, update data associated with a current location of the train;
• revising, by the analytics engine, the driving strategy based on the saved data and the update data, for optimizing energy consumption efficiency for a segment of the traveling route associated with the current location, including:
• identifying active powered components of the train that are non-essential for traversing the segment, and
• turning off power to one or more of the identified active powered components for a duration of traversing the segment by, at least one of:
• reducing power supplied to the one or more of the identified active powered components for the duration of traversing the segment, or
• reducing operation of the one or more of the identified active powered components for the duration of traversing the segment;
• and
• operating, by the locomotive control system, the train according to the revised driving strategy.
