Abstract
A multiple function button for an information handling system includes an outer button and an inner button. The outer button includes a first contact component positioned over a first contact of the information handling system. The first contact is associated with a first operation within the information handling system. The inner button is inserted within the outer button and includes a second contact component. The second contact component is positioned over a second contact of the information handling system, which in turn is associated with a second operation within the information handling system.
Claims16
A multiple function button for an information handling system, the multiple function button comprising:
- an outer button including a first contact component, wherein the first contact component is positioned over a first contact of the information handling system associated with a first operation within the information handling system;
- an inner button inserted within the outer button, the inner button including a second contact component, wherein the second contact component is positioned over a second contact of the information handling system associated with a second operation within the information handling system;
- a spring in physical communication with the inner button, wherein in response to a first downward force being released from the outer button, the spring exerts a first force on the inner button and causes the inner button to exert a second force on the outer button, wherein the first and second forces bias the inner and outer buttons towards a first position;
- and
- a cantilever in physical communication with the first contact component, the cantilever including a contact portion, wherein the contact portion of the cantilever is on a first surface that is opposite a second surface, wherein the first contact component is in physical communication with the second surface of the cantilever.
An information handling system comprising:
- a circuit board including first and second contacts;
- and
- a hybrid button device in physical communication with a component, the hybrid button device including:
- an outer button including a first contact component, wherein the first contact component is positioned over the first contact of the circuit board associated with a first operation within the information handling system;
- an inner button inserted within the outer button, the inner button including a second contact component, wherein the second contact component is positioned over the second contact of the circuit board associated with a second operation within the information handling system;
- a spring in physical communication with the inner button, wherein in response to a first downward force being released from the outer button, the spring exerts a first force on the inner button and causes the inner button to exert a second force on the outer button, wherein the first and second forces bias the inner and outer buttons towards a first position;
- and
- a cantilever in physical communication with the first contact component, the cantilever including a contact portion, wherein the contact portion of the cantilever is on a first surface that is opposite a second surface, wherein the first contact component is in physical communication with the second surface of the cantilever.
A multiple function button for an information handling system, the multiple function button comprising:
- an outer button including a first contact component, wherein the first contact component is positioned over a first contact of the information handling system associated with a first operation within the information handling system;
- an inner button inserted within the outer button, the inner button including a second contact component, wherein the second contact component is positioned over a second contact of the information handling system associated with a second operation within the information handling system;
- a spring to bias a top surface of the inner button even with a top surface of the outer button, wherein in response to a first downward force being released from the outer button, the spring exerts a first force on the inner button and causes the inner button to exert a second force on the outer button, wherein the first and second forces bias the inner and outer buttons towards a first position;
- a cantilever in physical communication with the first contact component, the cantilever including a contact portion, wherein the contact portion of the cantilever is on a first surface that is opposite a second surface, wherein the first contact component is in physical communication with the second surface of the cantilever.
