Abstract
Rotors formed by an additive manufacturing process are presented. In one example, a rotor includes a monolithically formed rotor body and a plurality of helically arranged lobes formed from a first material, wherein each of the plurality of lobes defines an internal cavity between an outer surface and a central aperture.
Claims21
A rotor comprising:
- (a) a monolithically formed rotor body defining:
- 1) a central aperture;
- 2) a plurality of lobes arranged helically about the central aperture and being formed from a first material, each of the plurality of lobes defining an internal cavity between an outer surface and the central aperture;
- 3) a lattice structure within the internal cavity of each of the plurality of lobes;
- and
- 4) an injected foam or polymer within the lattice structure.

A rotor comprising:
- a monolithically formed rotor body defining:
- a central aperture;
- a plurality of lobes arranged helically about the central aperture formed from a first material, each of the plurality of lobes defining an internal cavity between an outer surface and the central aperture;
- and
- a coating formed by adding a second material onto the outer surface of the plurality of lobes, wherein the configuration of the second material comprises at least one of:
- 1) the same material as the first material;
- 2) a second material porosity that is higher than a first material porosity at which the first material is added;
- or 3) a matrix pattern onto the outer surface of the plurality of lobes.
5 more elements
A rotor assembly comprising:
- (a) a shaft extending along a longitudinal axis;
- (b) a plurality of lobes arranged helically about the shaft and being formed from a first material, each of the plurality of lobes defining an internal cavity between an outer surface and the shaft;
- and
- (c) a coating formed by adding a second material onto the outer surface of the plurality of lobes, wherein the configuration of the second material comprises at least one of:
- 1) the same material as the first material;
- 2) a second material porosity that is higher than a first material porosity at which the first material is added;
- or 3) a matrix pattern onto the outer surface of the plurality of lobes.
