Abstract
We describe apparatuses, systems, method, reagents, and kits for conducting assays as well as process for their preparation. They are particularly well suited for conducting automated sampling, sample preparation, and analysis in a multi-well plate assay format. For example, they may be used for automated analysis of particulates in air and/or liquid samples derived therefrom in environmental monitoring.
Claims25
A system for assaying one or more analytes in a plurality of samples, said system comprising at least two monitoring systems and a second computer,
- wherein each monitoring system of said at least two monitoring systems comprises:
- a plurality of sample collection modules fluidically connected to a detection module, wherein each sample collection module is configured to collect air samples or fluid samples, wherein each sample collection module of the plurality of sample collection modules is in a respectively different location and is configured to collect samples using a different collection modality selected for a different analyte of interest or sample type, and wherein said detection module comprises:
- (i) a plate holder for supporting a multi-well assay plate in said detection module,
- (ii) a fluidic manifold for receiving a sample from at least one of said plurality of sample collection modules,
- (iii) a pipettor for transferring sample from said fluidic manifold to a well of said multi-well assay plate in said each monitoring system, and
- (iv) a light detector for measuring luminescence from said well of said multi-well assay plate;
- and
- a first computer configured to receive and process data from said detection module, and, upon identifying by the first computer a positive identification in the data received from the detection module, to automatically alert one or more others of said at least two monitoring systems, which automatically increase a frequency of analysis and/or lower detection limits to identify presence of biological agents;
- wherein the first computer is further configured to control a timing of sample delivery from the plurality of sample collection modules to said detection module;
- and
- wherein said at least two monitoring systems are each configured for remote management and data transmission through connecting over a network to the second computer.
A system for assaying one or more analytes in a plurality of samples, said system comprising at least two monitoring systems and a second computer,
- wherein each monitoring system of the at least two monitoring systems comprises:
- a plurality of sample collection modules fluidically connected to a detection module, each sample collection module including one or more mechanisms to collect a fluid sample for subsequent presentation to the detection module, wherein each sample collection module of the plurality of sample collection modules is in a respectively different location and is configured to collect samples using a different collection modality selected for a different analyte of interest or sample type, and wherein said detection module comprises:
- (i) a holder for supporting an assay consumable,
- (ii) a fluidic manifold for receiving a sample from at least one of said plurality of sample collection modules,
- (iii) a fluidic subsystem for transferring sample from said fluidic manifold to said assay consumable, and
- (iv) a detector for measuring an assay signal from said assay consumable;
- and
- a first computer configured to receive and process data from said detection module, and, upon identifying by the first computer a positive identification in the data received from the detection module, to automatically alert one or more others of said at least two monitoring systems, which automatically increase a frequency of assaying by the detection module, and to automatically alert one or more of others of said at least two monitoring systems, which automatically increase a frequency of analysis and/or lower detection limits to identify presence of biological agent;
- wherein the first computer is further configured to control a timing of sample delivery from the plurality of sample collection modules to said detection module;
- and
- wherein said at least two monitoring systems are each configured for remote management and data transmission through connecting over a network to the second computer.
