Braking or accelerating methods and apparatuses

A device, comprising:

• a processor;
• a brake in communication with the processor;
• a handlebar having a longitudinal axis, wherein the handlebar includes a first portion and a second portion;
• a stem engaging the handlebar such that the first portion extends from the stem in a first direction and the second portion extends from the stem in a second direction, wherein the first direction is opposite the second direction;
• and
• a sensor secured to the handlebar or the stem, wherein the processor is in communication with the sensor, wherein the first portion and the second portion are simultaneously rotatable about the longitudinal axis away from the stem relative to the stem in a direction of travel such that the processor proportionally activates the brake based on a distance sensed by the sensor rotationally increasing responsive to the first portion and the second portion being simultaneously being rotated about the longitudinal axis away from the stem relative to the stem in the direction of travel.
