Abstract
A reciprocating bolt assembly has delayed blowback and a firing pin block. Features prevent out-of-battery firing, when the bolt assembly is not fully engaged to the firing chamber or barrel face, a movable member within a bolt body functions as a blocking member that blocks the firing pin and prevents the firing pin from striking a cartridge. In embodiments, the firing pin has two stop portions that the movable member can engage depending on the cycle status of the firearm. A reverse cam mechanism associated with the firing pin blocking provides a resistance to and delays blowback.
Claims19
A trigger assembly of a semi-automatic firearm for firing rimfire ammunition, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a hammer rotatable about a first axis, the hammer including structure defining a capture feature and a lip portion;
- a firing trigger rotatable about a second axis, the firing trigger comprising a first finger hook and a sear portion releasably coupled to the hammer, when the firing trigger and the hammer are in a battery position of the trigger assembly;
- a firing trigger return spring configured to urge the firing trigger toward the battery position, wherein the firing trigger return spring is adjustable to alter a spring force applied to the firing trigger;
- an arrestor rotatable about the second axis, the arrestor comprising a claw portion configured to engage with the lip portion of the hammer;
- a safety trigger rotatable about the second axis, the safety trigger comprising:
- a second finger hook having a portion extending forwardly of the first finger hook when the safety trigger is in the battery position;
- and
- a catch configured to, when the safety trigger is in the battery position, arrest the capture feature of the hammer as the hammer rotates to prevent discharge of the semi-automatic firearm;
- and
- an arrestor return spring configured to urge the arrestor toward a position configured to engage with the lip portion defined by the hammer.
A semiautomatic firearm for firing rimfire ammunition, comprising:
- a barrel defining a chamber for receiving and firing a rimfire cartridge;
- a receiver operatively coupled to the barrel;
- a bolt assembly operatively coupled to the receiver and comprising a firing pin configured to fire the rimfire cartridge;
- and
- a trigger assembly configured to actuate the firing pin, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a hammer rotatable about a first axis and configured to contact the firing pin when firing the rimfire cartridge, the hammer including structure defining a capture feature and a lip portion;
- a firing trigger rotatable about a second axis, the firing trigger comprising a first finger hook and a sear portion releasably coupled to the hammer, when the first trigger and the hammer are in a battery position of the trigger assembly;
- a firing trigger return spring configured to urge the firing trigger toward the battery position, wherein the firing trigger return spring is adjustable to alter a spring force applied to the firing trigger;
- an arrestor rotatable about the second axis, the arrestor comprising a claw portion configured to engage with the lip portion of the hammer;
- a safety trigger rotatable about the second axis, the safety trigger comprising:
- a second finger hook having a portion extending forwardly of the first finger hook when the safety trigger is in the battery position;
- and
- a catch configured to, when the safety trigger is in the battery position, arrest the capture feature of the hammer as the hammer rotates to prevent the hammer from contacting the firing pin;
- and
- an arrestor return spring configured to urge the arrestor toward a position configured to engage with the lip portion defined by the hammer.
