Abstract
A printed circuit board includes a dielectric substrate; first and second conductive traces disposed on the dielectric substrate; and a compensation structure disposed in the first conductive trace. The compensation structure includes a compensation segment connected in line with the first conductive trace; and a dielectric layer on all or part of the compensation segment. The first and second conductive traces may form a differential signal pair. The compensation segment may limit one or more of signal skew, mode conversion from differential mode to common mode, and impedance variations caused by a bend in the differential signal pair.

A printed circuit board comprising:
- a dielectric substrate;
- first and second conductive traces disposed on the dielectric substrate;
- and
- a compensation structure disposed in the first conductive trace, the compensation structure including:
- a conductive compensation segment connected in line with the first conductive trace, the conductive compensation segment including a curved portion;
- a first straight connecting segment, between one end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs away from the second conductive trace between the first conductive trace and the one end of the conductive compensation segment;
- and
- a second straight connecting segment, between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs toward the second conductive trace between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace,
- wherein the curved portion extends continuously from the one end to the other end of the conductive compensation segment.
A system comprising:
- a printed circuit board comprising:
- a dielectric substrate;
- first and second conductive traces disposed on the dielectric substrate;
- and
- a compensation structure disposed in the first conductive trace, the compensation structure including:
- a conductive compensation segment connected in line with the first conductive trace, the conductive compensation segment including a curved portion;
- a first straight connecting segment, between one end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs away from the second conductive trace between the first conductive trace and the one end of the conductive compensation segment;
- and
- a second straight connecting segment, between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs toward the second conductive trace between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace,
- wherein the curved portion extends continuously from the one end to the other end of the conductive compensation segment;
- a first electrical component mounted on the printed circuit board;
- and
- a second electrical component mounted on the printed circuit board, the first and second conductive traces routed from the first electrical component to the second electrical component.
A method for fabricating a printed circuit board, comprising:
- forming conductive layer on a dielectric substrate;
- and
- patterning the conductive layer to form first and second conductive traces on the dielectric substrate, the first conductive trace including a compensation structure, the compensation structure including:
- a conductive compensation segment connected in line with the first conductive trace and including a curved portion;
- a first straight connecting segment, between one end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs away from the second conductive trace between the first conductive trace and the one end of the conductive compensation segment;
- and
- a second straight connecting segment, between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace, that jogs toward the second conductive trace between the other end of the conductive compensation segment and the first conductive trace,
- wherein the curved portion extends continuously from the one end to the other end of the conductive compensation segment.
