Abstract
An electrode catalyst of the present invention contains an electrically conductive material carrying a metal or a metal oxide, and has an electrical conductivity at 30° C. of 1×10−13 Scm−1 or more.
Claims3
A fuel cell comprising an anode, a cathode and an electrolyte, wherein the anode comprises an electrode catalyst comprising an electrically conductive material carrying a metal or a metal oxide, and having an electrical conductivity at 30°0 C. of 1×10−13 Scm−1 or more;
- said metal is one or more transition metals and said metal oxide is an oxide of a transition metal;
- and
- said electrolyte has proton conductivity;
- and
- wherein an a-hydroxycarboxylic acid contacts the anode to generate protons and electrons;
- the protons move in the electrolyte and reach the cathode;
- and
- the protons and oxygen are reacted on the cathode to produce water.
5 more elements
An energy recovery system for recovering surplus electric power energy, the system comprising:
- a container for storing an a-keto carboxylic acid;
- a container for storing an a-hydroxycarboxylic acid;
- and
- a means for electrochemically oxidizing said a-hydroxycarboxylic acid to produce said α-α-keto carboxylic acid and generating electric power,
- wherein said means comprise an anode;
- wherein the anode comprises an electrode catalyst comprising an electrically conductive material carrying a metal or a metal oxide, and having an electrical conductivity at 30° C. of 1×10−13 Scm−1 or more;
- said metal is one or more transition metals and said metal oxide is an oxide of a transition metal;
- and
- wherein the a-hydroxycarboxylic acid contacts the anode to generate protons and electrons.
