Abstract
A multipoint lock is described. The multipoint lock includes a main latch. The main latch has a latched position where the main latch is configured to extend a first distance from an unhinged edge of a door panel. The main latch is configured to be retractable toward the unhinged edge of the door panel by rotation of a latch drive hub in each of a clockwise direction and a counterclockwise direction relative to a first side of the door panel. The multipoint lock also includes at least one auxiliary latch and a deadbolt drive hub. Rotation of the deadbolt drive hub substantially simultaneously actuates the main latch and the at least one auxiliary latch.
Claims22
A multipoint lock, comprising:
- a main latch having a latched position in which the main latch is configured to extend a first latch distance from an unhinged edge of a door panel and a retracted position in which the main latch is configured to be retracted towards the unhinged edge of the door panel;
- a latch drive hub operably coupled to the main latch and configured to actuate the main latch between the latched position and the retracted position, the latch drive hub suitable for actuation by hardware designed to actuate a cylindrical latch;
- a first auxiliary latch having a locked position in which the first auxiliary latch is configured to extend a first lock distance from the unhinged edge or a top edge of the door panel and an unlocked position in which the first auxiliary latch is retracted towards the respective edge of the door panel;
- a second auxiliary latch having a locked position in which the second auxiliary latch is configured to extend the first lock distance from the unhinged edge or a bottom edge of the door panel and an unlocked position in which the second auxiliary latch is retracted towards the respective edge of the door panel;
- and
- a deadbolt drive hub operably coupled to the first auxiliary latch and the second auxiliary latch, the deadbolt drive hub having a first configuration in which the first auxiliary latch and the second auxiliary latch are in the respective unlocked position and a second configuration in which the first auxiliary latch and the second auxiliary latch are in the respective locked position, the deadbolt drive hub configured for actuation by hardware designed for a cylindrical deadbolt.
A multipoint lock, comprising:
- a main latch having a latched position in which the main latch is configured to extend a first latch distance from an unhinged edge of a door panel and a retracted position in which the main latch is configured to be retracted towards the unhinged edge of the door panel;
- a latch drive hub operably coupled to the main latch and configured to actuate the main latch between the latched position and the retracted position, the latch drive hub suitable for actuation by hardware designed to actuate a cylindrical latch;
- an auxiliary latch having a locked position in which the auxiliary latch is configured to extend a first lock distance from the unhinged edge, a top edge, or a bottom edge of the door panel and an unlocked position in which the auxiliary latch is retracted towards the respective edge of the door panel, the auxiliary latch spaced at least 12 inches from the main latch;
- and
- a deadbolt drive hub operably coupled to the auxiliary latch, the deadbolt drive hub having a first configuration in which the auxiliary latch is in the unlocked position and a second configuration in which the auxiliary latch is in the locked position, the deadbolt drive hub configured for actuation by hardware designed for a cylindrical deadbolt.
A door assembly comprising:
- a door panel having a first face and a second face opposite the first face, the first and second faces extending between a hinged edge, a top edge, a bottom edge, and an unhinged edge of the door panel, the door panel including first and second through bores extending between the first face and the second face adjacent the unhinged edge;
- a multipoint lock disposed substantially within the door panel adjacent the unhinged edge, the multipoint lock comprising:
- a main latch having a latched position in which the main latch is configured to extend a first latch distance from the unhinged edge of a door panel and a retracted position in which the main latch is configured to be retracted towards the unhinged edge of the door panel;
- a latch drive hub operably coupled to the main latch and configured to actuate the main latch between the latched position and the retracted position, the latch drive hub defining a latch passage disposed within first through bore of the door panel, the latch passage configured to receive a first spindle such that the latch drive hub rotates in response to rotation of the first spindle to actuate the main latch;
- an auxiliary latch having a locked position in which the auxiliary latch is configured to extend a first lock distance from the unhinged edge, the top edge, or the bottom edge of the door panel and an unlocked position in which the auxiliary latch is retracted towards the respective edge of the door panel;
- and
- a deadbolt drive hub operably coupled to the auxiliary latch, the deadbolt drive hub having a first configuration in which the auxiliary latch is in the unlocked position and a second configuration in which the auxiliary latch is in the locked position, the deadbolt drive hub defining a deadbolt passage disposed within second through bore of the door panel, the deadbolt passage configured to receive a second spindle such that the deadbolt drive hub rotates in response to rotation of the second spindle to actuate the auxiliary latch, wherein the auxiliary latch is spaced at least 12 inches from the main latch.
A door assembly comprising:
- a door panel having a first face and a second face opposite the first face, the first and second faces extending between a hinged edge, a top edge, a bottom edge, and an unhinged edge of the door panel, the door panel including first and second through bores extending between the first face and the second face adjacent the unhinged edge;
- a multipoint lock disposed substantially within the door panel adjacent the unhinged edge, the multipoint lock comprising:
- a main latch having a latched position in which the main latch is configured to extend a first latch distance from the unhinged edge of a door panel and a retracted position in which the main latch is configured to be retracted towards the unhinged edge of the door panel;
- a latch drive hub operably coupled to the main latch and configured to actuate the main latch between the latched position and the retracted position, the latch drive hub defining a latch passage disposed within first through bore of the door panel, the latch passage configured to receive a first spindle such that the latch drive hub rotates in response to rotation of the first spindle to actuate the main latch;
- an auxiliary latch having a locked position in which the auxiliary latch is configured to extend a first lock distance from the unhinged edge, the top edge, or the bottom edge of the door panel and an unlocked position in which the auxiliary latch is retracted towards the respective edge of the door panel;
