Asphalt slurry seal composition

A process for preparing an asphalt slurry seal, comprising the steps of:

• a) providing a mineral filler comprising an inorganic mineral blend, wherein the inorganic mineral blend is a calcium carbonate mineral blend;
• and wherein
• the calcium carbonate mineral blend has a multi-modal particle size distribution with at least a first maximum and a second maximum, wherein
• the first maximum is in the range of about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm, the particles of the first maximum having a BET specific surface area of about 4 m2/g to about 15 m2/g, and the second maximum is in the range of about 5 μm to about 35 μm, and
• about 5 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of the particles in the calcium carbonate mineral blend (dry weight) are in the range of about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm;
• b) providing an additive component comprised of at least one rheology modifier;
• a pigment component comprised of at least one pigment, and water;
• c) forming a suspension by mixing the water, the mineral filler, the pigment component, and the additive component,
• d) providing an asphalt emulsion and optionally one or more functional minerals;
• e) mixing the asphalt emulsion into the suspension;
• and
• f) mixing the optional one or more functional minerals into the suspension.
