Abstract
Compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) techniques that produce spatially encoded images from a first series of images where each spatially encoded image has first and second views of an image of the first series of images superimposed with a pseudo-random binary spatial pattern, that transform the first view and/or the second view such that the first view is rotated 180° relative to second view, that deflect each spatially encoded image by a temporal deflection distance that varies as a function of time-of-arrival, and that integrate the spatially encoded images into a CUP image.
Claims13
A compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) system for imaging a subject, the CUP system comprising:
- an imaging system configured to illuminate the subject with at least a first laser pulse and produce a first series of images of the subject;
- a spatial encoding module configured to receive the first series of images and to produce a second series of spatially encoded images, each spatially encoded image of the second series comprising a first view including one image of the first series of images superimposed with a pseudo-random binary spatial pattern and a second view including the one image of the first series superimposed with the pseudo-random binary spatial pattern;
- at least one optical component configured to transform the first view and/or the second view such that the first view is rotated 180° relative to the second view;
- and a streak camera optically coupled to the at least one optical component, the streak camera configured to receive the second series of spatially encoded images with the first view rotated 180° relative to the second view, configured to deflect each spatially encoded image by a temporal deflection distance that varies as a function of time-of-arrival, and configured to integrate the deflected spatially encoded images into a single CUP image.
A compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) method for imaging a subject, the CUP method comprising:
- receiving a first series of images;
- producing a second series of spatially encoded images, each spatially encoded image of the second series comprising a first view including one image of the first series superimposed with a pseudo-random binary spatial pattern and a second view including the one image of the first series superimposed with the pseudo-random binary spatial pattern;
- transforming, by at least one optical component, the first view and/or the second view such that the first view is rotated 180° relative to the second view;
- and
- receiving, by a streak camera, the second series of spatially encoded images with the first view rotated 180° relative to the second view;
- deflecting, by the streak camera, each spatially encoded image by a temporal deflection distance that varies as a function of time-of-arrival;
- and
- integrating, by the streak camera, the deflected spatially encoded images into a CUP image.
