Abstract
Oligosaccharides are for use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system, in particular Parkinson's disease, and to pharmaceutical compositions including one or more of the oligosaccharides.
Claims4
A method for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system comprising:
- administering to a patient in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of an one or more oligosaccharides of formula (1):
- R1-β-Gal-(1-3)-β-GalNAc-(1-4)-[α-Neu5Ac-(2-3)]-R2-R3 (1)
- where R1 is absent or selected from α-Fuc(1-2), α-Neu5Ac-(2-3);
- R2 is selected from -(1-4)-β-Gal if the oligosaccharide ends with a glucose, or -(1-4)-Gal if the oligosaccharide ends with a galactose;
- R3 is absent or selected from (1-4)-Glc, -(1-4)-sorbitol;
- wherein said disease is selected from the group consisting of:
- Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), progressive supranuclear palsy, frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).
