Abstract
Various collection devices, systems and methods relating to the use of devices with open microfluidic channels disposed within a housing defining a lumen. These devices make use of microneedles passed through apertures to induce fluid flow into microfluidic channel networks for collection and analysis. The device can be actuated via button when placed on the skin of a patient to collect a fluid sample, such as a blood draw.
Claims13
A method of collecting bodily fluid from a subject, the method comprising:
- positioning a lower surface of a base of a bodily fluid collection device against skin of the subject, wherein the base has an aperture extending therethrough;
- actuating an actuation member of the bodily fluid collection device to move a skin-piercing feature of the bodily fluid collection device at least partially through a lumen of the bodily fluid collection device and at least partially through the aperture to puncture the skin of the subject;
- receiving the bodily fluid through the aperture;
- receiving the bodily fluid along a fluidic path fluidly connected to the aperture such that the fluidic path directs the bodily fluid away from the aperture, wherein the fluidic path extends at least partially in a direction parallel to the lower surface;
- and
- providing vacuum pressure within the lumen such that the vacuum pressure is applied through the aperture.
