A battery grid is disclosed. The battery grid includes a pattern of grid wires. The pattern includes a grid wire having a first segment with a first corrosion resistance and a second segment with a second corrosion resistance which is less than the first corrosion resistance. The second segment corrodes at a rate which is faster than the corrosion rate of the first segment so as to dynamically release internal stress and control grid growth of the battery grid during its service life. A battery includes said grid and a method of forming said grid are also disclosed.
A lead-acid battery comprising a plurality of positive battery grid plates each having a frame with a top, a first side, a second side, and a bottom, and a plurality of grid wires interconnected within each of the frames to create interstices therebetween, one or more first segments of one or more of the plurality of the grid wires having a first microstructure with a primary deformation of a first magnitude, one or more second segments of one or more of the plurality of grid wires having a second microstructure, different from the first microstructure, with a secondary deformation of a second magnitude, with the one or more first segments and the one or more second segments being at separate locations, and the one or more first segments having a greater corrosion resistance than the one or more second segments.
A lead-acid battery comprising a plurality of grid plates being alternating positive and negative grid plates arranged to form a stack, the stack fitted within a battery housing, with each of the plurality of grid plates having a frame with a top, a first side, a second side, and a bottom, a plurality of grid wires interconnected within each of the frames to create interstices therebetween, a first segment of one or more of the plurality of grid wires having a primary deformation of a first magnitude, a second segment of the one or more of the plurality of grid wires having a secondary deformation of a second magnitude, with the first segment and the second segment being at separate locations, and the first segment having a first grain structure and a greater corrosion resistance than the second segment having a second grain structure, with the first grain structure being different from the second grain structure.
A lead-acid battery comprising a plurality of positive battery grid plates each having a frame with a top, a first side, a second side, and a bottom, and a plurality of grid wires interconnected within each of the frames to create interstices therebetween, one or more first locations and one or more second locations of one or more of the plurality of the grid wires having a first microstructure with a primary deformation of a first magnitude, the one or more first locations having a second microstructure, proximate to and different from the first microstructure, with a secondary deformation of a second magnitude, and the one or more second locations having a greater corrosion resistance than the one or more first locations.
