Abstract
Luminescent concrete compositions containing cement, fine aggregates such as sand, and a phosphor such as strontium aluminate. Glow-in-the-dark concrete products made therefrom and methods of producing such concrete products are also specified. The glow-in-the-dark concrete products demonstrate good mechanical strength (e.g. compressive strength) and skid resistance. The addition of phosphorescent strontium aluminate provides luminance that persists for up to 10 hours to the concrete products.
Claims9
A decorative glow-in-the-dark concrete block, comprising:
- a base concrete block having a rectangle cuboid shape, and
- a cured luminescent concrete layer;
- wherein the cured luminescent concrete layer comprises a cured luminescent concrete and has a skid resistance value of 100-150, and wherein the cured luminescent concrete layer has a thickness of 5-20 mm, and a thickness ratio of the cured luminescent concrete layer to the base concrete block is in the range of 0.02:1 to 0.2:1;
- wherein at least a portion of a surface a single side of the base concrete block is coated with the cured luminescent concrete;
- and
- wherein the cured luminescent concrete comprises:
- a cement;
- a fine aggregate comprising sand;
- and
- phosphorescent aluminate particles,
- wherein a weight ratio of the phosphorescent aluminate particles to the fine aggregate is in the range of 1:2 to 1:20;
- wherein the cured luminescent concrete layer has an intensity of glow of 2-15 candelas per square meter for a period of 0.1-10 hours upon excitation with sun light for 2-20 minutes;
- and
- wherein the phosphorescent aluminate particles are present only in the cured luminescent concrete.
