Abstract
Coating compositions for coating fluid handling components, and related methods, may include in some aspects a coating composition having a trifunctional silane, a silanol, and a filler. The coating composition may be applied to a surface of a fluid handling component that is configured to be exposed to a fluid. The coating composition may be applied to at least partially cover or coat the surface. The coating composition may be configured to chemically bond with a cured primer composition that includes an epoxy.
Claims25
A fluid handling component comprising:
- a component body including a surface at least partially defining an internal passage positioned to receive fluid flow therethrough;
- and
- a coating at least partially covering the surface of the fluid handling component body to enhance wear resistance of the fluid handling component body, such that the fluid handling component exhibits a wear resistance comparison factor indicative of an increased resistance to wear greater than about 2, the wear resistance comparison factor being indicative of a first amount of time during which a portion of the coating wears to a first depth divided by a second amount of time during which a corresponding portion of a comparable fluid handling component body without the coating wears to a second depth equal to the first depth, and the coating comprising:
- a primer applied to the surface of the fluid handling component body;
- and
- a coating composition at least partially coating the primer, the coating composition comprising trifunctional silane, silanol fluid, titanium dioxide, and filler, and the coating composition being positioned to chemically bond with the primer.
A fluid handling component comprising:
- a component body including a surface at least partially defining an enclosed flow path positioned to receive fluid flow therethrough containing one or more abrasive or corrosive substances;
- and
- a coating at least partially covering the surface of the fluid handling component body to enhance wear resistance of the fluid handling component body, such that the fluid handling component exhibits a wear resistance comparison factor indicative of an increased resistance to wear greater than about 2, the wear resistance comparison factor being indicative of a first amount of time during which a portion of the coating wears to a first depth divided by a second amount of time during which a corresponding portion of a comparable fluid handling component body without the coating wears to a second depth equal to the first depth, and the coating comprising:
- a primer applied to the surface of the fluid handling component body;
- and
- a coating composition at least partially coating the primer, the coating composition comprising trifunctional silane, silanol fluid, titanium dioxide, and filler, and the coating composition being positioned to chemically bond with the primer, and one or more of the trifunctional silane, the silanol fluid, the titanium dioxide, or the filler are configured to cure and form ethyl T-resin units, each of the ethyl T-resin units forming two or more bonds with one or more of other ethyl T-resin units, silanol fluid, titanium dioxide, or fillers.
