Holographic projection

A method of holographically-projecting a reconstruction of a target image, the method comprising:

• providing a primary image derived from the target image, the primary image comprising a plurality of primary image pixels, each primary image pixel having a pixel value;
• generating a first secondary image comprising a first plurality of secondary image pixels by sampling the primary image according to a first sampling scheme having a plurality of first sampling windows each having a first sampling window position, each secondary image pixel of the first secondary image corresponding to one of the first sampling windows and having a pixel value that is calculated from pixel values of a group of primary image pixels of the primary image that fall within a corresponding first sampling window at a respective first sampling window position in accordance with the first sampling scheme;
• generating a second secondary image comprising a second plurality of secondary image pixels by sampling the primary image according to a second sampling scheme having a plurality of second sampling windows each having a second sampling window position, each secondary image pixel of the second secondary image corresponding to one of the second sampling windows and having a pixel value that is calculated from pixel values of a group of primary image pixels of the primary image that fall within a corresponding second sampling window at a respective second sampling window position in accordance with the second sampling scheme, the second sampling scheme being substantially different from the first sampling scheme;
• and
• calculating a first hologram corresponding to the first secondary image to form a first hologram comprising a first set of hologram pixels;
• calculating a second hologram corresponding to the second secondary image to form a second hologram comprising a second set of hologram pixels;
• displaying the first hologram on a display device;
• illuminating the first hologram during display to form a first holographic reconstruction corresponding to the first secondary image on a replay plane;
• and
• illuminating the second hologram during display to form a second holographic reconstruction corresponding to the second secondary image on the replay plane.
