Abstract
A system and method of providing caller identification (ID) over a public switched telephone network (PSTN). For outbound calls, the system and method enable a caller to provide a caller ID that differs from the native caller ID of their mobile phone. The system and method enable multiple phones tied to a single account to display the same caller ID for outbound calls. For forwarded inbound calls, such as calls being forwarded from an office, the system and method inform the recipient of the identification of the call as well as that the call is being forwarded. The system and method enable the recipient to have calls forwarded from more than one number and identify the identity of the caller as well as the specific number the call is being forwarded from.
Claims23
A system for inviting at least one new user to join an ongoing first call between two or more existing users, the system comprising:
- a) a first device is a cell phone and is associated with at least one of the existing users the first device having a first call placement application operating on the first device, wherein the first device is on the ongoing call via the native dialer of the cell phone;
- b) at least one second device associated with the at least one new user, the second device having at least one second call placement application operating on the at least one second device, and
- c) a server that is communicatively coupled to the first call placement application on the first device and the at least one second call placement application on the at least one second device;
- wherein the first call placement application and the at least one second call placement application are designed and configured to:
- d) receive, on the first device, a user command from at least one of the existing users to transmit a first call invitation to the at least one second device;
- e) transmit a request to the server to initiate the first call invitation to the at least one second device,
- f) receive the request from the server to receive the first call invitation on the at least one second device;
- g) reject or accept the first call invitation based on a command from the at least one second user;
- h) before or after the first call invitation is accepted, initiate at least one second call to the at least one second device;
- and
- i) merge the ongoing call with at least one second call.
A method of inviting at least one new user to join an ongoing call between two or more existing users, the method comprising the steps of,
- a) providing a system comprising:
- i) a first device that is a cell phone and is associated with at least one of the existing users, and a first call placement application operating on the first device, wherein the first device is on the ongoing call via the native dialer of the cell phone;
- ii) at least one second device associated with the at least one new user, at least one second telephone number and a second call placement application operating on the second device;
- and
- iii) a server that is communicatively coupled to the first call placement application on the first device and the second call placement application on the at least one second device;
- b) receiving, at the first call placement application, a user command from at least one of the existing users to transmit a first call invitation to the at least one second device;
- c) transmitting, at the first call placement application, a request to the server to initiate the first call invitation;
- d) receiving, at the server, the request to initiate the first call invitation;
- e) transmitting, at the server, the first call invitation to the second call placement application;
- f) receiving, at the at least one second call placement application, the first call invitation;
- g) receiving, at the at least one second call placement application, a user command from the at least one new user to accept the first call invitation,
- h) before or after step g), initiating at least one second call to at least one of the second devices;
- and
- i) merging the ongoing call with the at least one second call.
A method of inviting at least one new user to join an ongoing first call between two or more existing users, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a system comprising:
- i) a first device that is a cell phone and is associated with at least one of the existing users, and a first call placement application operating on the first device, wherein the first device is on the ongoing call via the native dialer of the cell phone;
- ii) at least one second device associated with the at least one new user, and at least one second call placement application operating on the at least one second device, and
- iii) a server that is communicatively coupled to the first call placement application on the first device and the at least one second call placement application on the at least one receiving,
- b) receiving, at the first call placement application, a user command from at least one of the existing users to transmit a first call invitation to the at least one second device;
- c) transmitting, at the first call placement application, a request to the server to initiate the first call invitation;
- d) receiving, at the server, the request to initiate the first call invitation;
- e) transmitting, at the server, the first call invitation to the second call placement application,
- f) receiving, at the at least one second call placement application, the first call invitation;
- and
- g) receiving, at the at least one second call placement application, a user command from the at least one new user to reject the first call invitation.
A system for inviting at least one new user to join an ongoing call between two or more existing users, the system comprising:
- a) a first device that is a cell phone and is associated with at least one of the existing users, the first device having a first call placement application operating on the first device, wherein the first device is on the ongoing call via the native dialer of the cell phone;
- b) at least one second device associated with the at least one new user, the second device having at least one second call placement application operating on the at least one second device;
- and
- c) a server that is communicatively coupled to the first call placement application on the first device and the at least one second call placement application on the at least one second device;
- wherein the system is designed and configured to:
- d) receive, on the first device, a user command from at least one of the existing users to transmit a first call invitation to the at least one second device;
- e) transmit a request to the server to initiate the first call invitation to the at least one second device;
- f) receive the request from the server to receive the first call invitation on the at least one second device;
- g) reject or accept the first call invitation based on a command from the at least one second user;
- h) before or after acceptance of the first call invitation, initiate at least one first call to the first device and at least one second call to the at least one second device;
- and
- i) merge the first call with the at least one second call.
