Positioning method and apparatus for terminal, using various data combinations

A positioning server using one or more data combinations, comprising a processor configured to:

• receive, from a wireless terminal, n access point (AP) scan data items collected by the wireless terminal from each of n APs, where n is a natural number greater than or equal to 4, wherein the AP scan data items include Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) or timing data;
• generate a plurality of data combinations by combining the n AP scan data items in units of k APs, where the k value is at least one integer from 3 up to n, wherein each data combination comprises at least one different AP scan data item;
• estimate a plurality of preliminary positions of the wireless terminal from the plurality of data combinations, respectively;
• cluster the plurality of preliminary positions into at least one cluster based on distances or densities of the plurality of preliminary positions;
• and
• determine a final position of the wireless terminal based on the at least one cluster.

A positioning method performed by a positioning server using one or more data combinations, comprising:

• receiving, from a wireless terminal, n access point (AP) scan data items collected by the wireless terminal from each of n APs, where n is a natural number greater than or equal to 4, wherein the AP scan data items include Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) or timing data;
• generating a plurality of data combinations by combining the n AP scan data items in units of k APs, where the k value is at least one integer from 3 up to n, wherein each data combination comprises at least one different AP scan data item;
• estimating a plurality of preliminary positions of the wireless terminal from the plurality of data combinations, respectively;
• clustering the plurality of preliminary positions into at least one cluster based on distances or densities of the plurality of preliminary positions;
• and
• determining a final position of the wireless terminal based on the at least one cluster.
