Abstract
The present invention relates to a desiccation apparatus, the apparatus comprising: a hollow drum mounted for revolution about a substantially longitudinal axis, the drum comprising a shell having an interior surface and an exterior surface; and a means to generate airflow through the hollow drum.
Claims18
A desiccation apparatus, the apparatus comprising:
- a hollow drum mounted for revolution about a substantially horizontal axis, the drum being defined by a shell having an interior surface and an exterior surface, the shell includes a plurality of perforations arranged therethrough;
- a porous liner provided on at least a portion of the interior surface of the shell, wherein the porous liner is capable of absorbing fluid and preventing solids from passing therethrough, where the perforations in the shell are in communication with the porous liner;
- and
- at least one of a fan, air blower, vacuum or suction device to generate airflow through the hollow drum in a direction parallel to an elongate axis of the drum.

A method for the removal of water from a feedstock comprising water, the method comprising:
- introducing the feedstock into a hollow drum mounted for revolution about a substantially horizontal axis, the drum being defined by a shell having an interior surface and an exterior surface the shell includes a plurality of perforations arranged therethrough, wherein a porous liner is provided on at least a portion of the interior surface, wherein the porous liner is capable of absorbing fluid and preventing solids from passing therethrough, and the plurality of perforations are in communication with the porous liner;
- generating an airflow through the hollow drum in a direction parallel to an elongate axis of the drum;
- and
- at least periodically rotating the hollow drum.
