Abstract
The present invention provides methods and system for power generation using a high efficiency combustor in combination with a CO2 circulating fluid. The methods and systems advantageously can make use of a low pressure ratio power turbine and an economizer heat exchanger in specific embodiments. Additional low grade heat from an external source can be used to provide part of an amount of heat needed for heating the recycle CO2 circulating fluid. Fuel derived CO2 can be captured and delivered at pipeline pressure. Other impurities can be captured.
Claims19
A method comprising:
- inputting into a combustor a carbon containing fuel, an oxidant stream, and a compressed carbon dioxide stream so that the carbon containing fuel is combusted in the presence of the compressed carbon dioxide stream to form a combustion exhaust stream;
- expanding the combustion exhaust stream across a turbine to generate power and form an expanded combustion exhaust stream;
- and processing the expanded combustion exhaust stream to generate the compressed carbon dioxide stream;
- wherein the oxidant stream input into the combustor comprises carbon dioxide and oxygen in a molar ratio (CO2 to O2) of about 1:2 to about 5:1;
- and
- wherein the carbon containing fuel, the oxidant stream, and the compressed carbon dioxide stream are input to the combustor so that a molar content of total carbon dioxide entering the combustor relative to molar content of carbon in the carbon containing fuel entering the combustor is about 10 moles of the total carbon dioxide per 1 mole of the carbon in the carbon containing fuel to about 50 moles of the total carbon dioxide per 1 mole of the carbon in the carbon containing fuel.
