Abstract
A device for manipulating tissue at a vessel includes an elongated member having a proximal end and a distal end, a guide member at the distal end of the elongated member, the guide member having a blunt distal tip for engagement against an interior wall of the vessel, and a tissue cutting device at the distal end of the elongated member, wherein the tissue cutting device has a sharp tip that is proximal to the blunt distal tip of the guide member.
Claims13
A method for gaining controlled access to a blood vessel wall, the method comprising:
- positioning a distal portion of an elongated member at a treatment site within a lumen of a blood vessel, the distal portion having a longitudinal axis, a wall-tensioning mechanism, and a slanted surface that forms an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis;
- expanding the wall-tensioning mechanism at the treatment site such that the wall-tensioning mechanism projects radially outwardly away from a side of the distal portion opposite the slanted surface and contacts a first blood vessel wall portion, wherein expanding the wall-tensioning mechanism pushes the slanted surface against a second blood vessel wall portion circumferentially opposite the first blood vessel wall portion such that the second blood vessel wall portion conforms to the slanted surface to position the second blood vessel wall portion at the acute angle;
- and
- extending a tissue penetrating element from a port along the slanted surface to penetrate the second blood vessel wall portion in apposition with the slanted surface.
A method for gaining access to a blood vessel wall, the method comprising:
- positioning a distal portion of an elongated member at a treatment site within a lumen of a blood vessel, the distal portion having a wall-tensioning mechanism and a slanted surface extending across a cross-section of the elongated member, wherein the slanted surface forms an acute angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the distal portion;
- expanding the wall-tensioning mechanism at the treatment site to position a portion of the blood vessel wall in apposition with the slanted surface, thereby conforming the portion of the blood vessel wall to the slanted surface and positioning the portion at the acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the distal portion of the elongated member;
- and
- penetrating an inner surface of the blood vessel wall along the portion of the blood vessel wall in apposition with the slanted surface by extending a tissue penetrating element distally from a port positioned along the slanted surface, thereby gaining access to an interior region of the blood vessel wall.
