Abstract
The disclosure provides compositions and methods for making a colorized solution of an aqueous disinfectant that is both stable in bulk solution and will fade to clear within a predetermined period of time after being applied to a surface, for example as a spray or film. The compositions and methods described here allow an end user to visualize both the extent of coverage and the duration of contact of the disinfectant with the surface, thereby providing more efficient disinfection of the surface.
Claims19
A method for disinfecting a surface, the method comprising:
- mixing an oxidant-based disinfecting agent and a solid composition comprising a pH sensitive colorant, a surfactant, and a rheology modifier;
- wherein (a) the pH sensitive colorant is present in an amount of from 1-10% w/w, based on the total weight of the composition:
- (b) the total amount of surfactant is present in an amount of from 25-97% w/w, based on total weight of the composition;
- (c) the rheology modifier is not the surfactant, and wherein the composition is capable of colorizing the oxidant-based disinfecting agent when mixed therewith;
- and
- applying the colored oxidant-based disinfecting agent to the surface.
A method for disinfecting a surface, the method comprising:
- mixing an oxidant-based disinfecting agent and a solid composition comprising a pH sensitive colorant, a surfactant, an alkaline builder, and a rheology modifier;
- wherein (a) the pH sensitive colorant is present in an amount of from 1-10% w/w, based on the total weight of the composition, (b) the total amount of surfactant is present in an amount of from 25-97% w/w, based on total weight of the composition, (c) the rheology modifier is not the surfactant (d) the alkaline builder is present in an amount of from 2-50% w/w, based on the total weight of the composition, and wherein the composition is capable of colorizing the oxidant-based disinfecting agent when mixed therewith;
- and
- applying the colored oxidant-based disinfecting agent to the surface.
