Abstract
Provided are amino acid based polymerizable compounds and their applications in ophthalmic devices. The amino acid based polymerizable compounds are of formula I: wherein R, R1, and R2 are as described herein.
Claims16
An amino acid-based polymerizable compound of formula I:
- wherein R is H, C(═O)R3 or, together with the nitrogen to which it is attached, R forms a polymerizable group, wherein R3 is C1-C25 alkyl or cycloalkyl;
- R1 is —CH2—SO3R5 and R5 is H, a metal cation, or C1-C6 alkyl;
- and
- R2 is OR4 or N(H)-L-Pg, wherein R4 is H, a metal cation, or C1-C6 alkyl, L is a linking group, and Pg is a polymerizable group,
- wherein the compound contains at least one polymerizable group.
