## Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates beyond 4th-generation (4G) communication system such as a long term evolution (LTE). A method for communication by a base station is provided. The method includes transmitting a scheduling assignment including a first part of a destination identifier (ID), and transmitting a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) including a MAC header including a user equipment (UE) ID and a second part of the destination ID.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for device to device (D2D) communication by a sender user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
identifying a first part of a destination identifier (ID) for identifying target of data for the D2D communication, and a second part of the destination ID, wherein the second part of the destination ID is different from the first part of the destination ID;
transmitting control information including the first part of the destination ID to a receiver UE, wherein the first part of the destination ID is used for filtering packets at a physical layer of the receiver UE; and
transmitting a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) including a MAC header including the second part of the destination ID to the receiver UE, wherein the second part of the destination ID is used for filtering packets at a MAC layer of the receiver UE.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first part of the destination ID is a least significant bit (LSB) part of the destination ID, and the second part of the destination ID is a most significant bit (MSB) part of the destination ID.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
identifying a first part of a source ID and a second part of the source ID,
wherein the control information further includes the first part of the source ID, and the MAC PDU further includes the second part of the source ID.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the first part of the source ID is a least significant bit (LSB) part of the source ID, and the second part of the source ID is a most significant bit (MSB) part of the source ID.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the first part of the source ID is used for filtering packets at the physical layer of the receiver UE, and the second part of the source ID is used for filtering packets at the MAC layer of the receiver UE.

### Claim 6

A sender user equipment (UE) for device to device (D2D) communication, the sender UE comprising:
a transceiver; and
a processor coupled to the transceiver, wherein the processor is configured to:
identify a first part of a destination identifier (ID) for identifying target of data for the D2D communication, and a second part of the destination ID, wherein the second part of the destination ID is different from the first part of the destination ID,
transmit control information including the first part of the destination ID to a receiver UE, wherein the first part of the destination ID is used for filtering packets at a physical layer of the receiver UE, and
transmit a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) including a MAC header including the second part of the destination ID to the receiver UE, wherein the second part of the destination ID is used for filtering packets at a MAC layer of the receiver UE.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The sender UE of claim 6, wherein the first part of the destination ID is a least significant bit (LSB) part of the destination ID, and the second part of the destination ID is a most significant bit (MSB) part of the destination ID.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The sender UE of claim 6, wherein the processor is further configured to:
identify a first part of a source ID and a second part of the source ID,
wherein the control information further includes the first part of the source ID, and the MAC PDU further includes the second part of the source ID.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The sender UE of claim 8, wherein the first part of the source ID is a least significant bit (LSB) part of the source ID, and the second part of the source ID is a most significant bit (MSB) part of the source ID.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The sender UE of claim 8, wherein the first part of the source ID is used for filtering packets at the physical layer of the receiver UE, and the second part of the source ID is used for filtering packets at the MAC layer of the receiver UE.
