## Abstract

A gold (III) complex of formula (I) or formula (II) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkyl, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted arylalkyl, or an optionally substituted aryl; R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkyl, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted arylalkyl, an optionally substituted aryl, an optionally substituted heterocyclyl, an optionally substituted alkoxy, a hydroxyl, a halo, a nitro, a cyano, a N-monosubstituted amino group, or a N,N-disubstituted amino group; and X is Cl, Br, or I. A pharmaceutical composition containing the gold(III) complex of formula (I) or (II), and a method of treating cancer are included.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A liquid pharmaceutical composition, comprising:
a gold (III) complex of formula (I),
a saline carrier liquid, and
a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient selected from the group consisting of lactose, glucose, and sucrose;
wherein:
R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen or an optionally substituted arylalkyl;
R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkoxy, or a hydroxyl; and
X is Cl or Br.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The liquid pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold (III) complex of formula (I) R1 and R2 are each independently a C7 to C12 arylalkyl.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The liquid pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold (III) complex of formula (I) R1 and R2 are each benzyl.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The liquid pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold (III) complex of formula (I) R3 and R4 are each hydrogen.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The liquid pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold (III) complex of formula (I) X is Cl.
