## Abstract

An aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material. The aerosol generating material comprises an amorphous solid which comprises 1-60 wt % of a gelling agent, 5-80 wt % of an aerosol generating agent and optionally 0.1-60 wt % of at least one active substance and/or flavorant (dry weight basis). The amorphous solid comprises from about 1 wt % to about 15 wt % water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material, the aerosol generating material comprising an amorphous solid, wherein the amorphous solid comprises:
1-60 wt % of a gelling agent; and
5-80 wt % of an aerosol generating agent;
and optionally, 0.1-60 wt % of at least one active substance and/or flavorant;
wherein these weights are calculated on a dry weight basis;
and wherein the amorphous solid comprises from about 1 wt % to about 15 wt % water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises from about 7 wt % to about 13 wt % of water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, further comprising a carrier on which the amorphous solid is provided.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the gelling agent is selected from the group consisting of pectins, alginates and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises an aerosol generating agent selected from the group consisting of erythritol, propylene glycol, glycerol and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating article for use in an aerosol generating assembly, the article comprising an aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 6, wherein the aerosol generating assembly comprises a heater configured to heat but not burn the aerosol generating substrate.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 7, wherein the aerosol generating assembly is a heat-not-burn device.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 7, wherein the aerosol generating assembly is an electronic tobacco hybrid device.

### Claim 10

A method of making an aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material, the aerosol generating material comprising an amorphous solid, the method comprising:
(a) forming a slurry comprising components of the amorphous solid or precursors thereof;
(b) forming a layer of the slurry;
(c) setting the layer of the slurry to form a gel; and
(d) drying the gel layer to form an amorphous solid, wherein the amorphous solid comprises 1-60 wt % of a gelling agent, 5-80 wt % of an aerosol generating agent, optionally 0.1-60 wt % of at least one active substance and/or flavorant, wherein these weights are calculated on a dry weight basis, and wherein the amorphous solid comprises from about 1 wt % to about 15 wt % water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

A method according to claim 10, wherein the drying step (d) removes 50-95 wt % based on a wet weight basis of water in the layer of the slurry.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

A method according to claim 10, wherein the setting step (c) further comprises adding a setting agent to the slurry.

### Claim 13

An aerosol generating article for use in an aerosol generating assembly, the article comprising an aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material, the aerosol generating material comprising an amorphous solid, wherein the amorphous solid comprises a gelling agent and one or more flavorant, the one or more flavorant being present in an amount of from 1 wt % to 80 wt % of the amorphous solid by dry weight, and wherein the amorphous solid comprises from about 1 wt % to about 15 wt % water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

An aerosol generating article according to claim 13, wherein the aerosol generating substrate comprises from about 7 wt % to about 13 wt % of water, calculated on a wet weight basis.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 13, wherein the aerosol generating substrate further comprises a carrier on which the amorphous solid is provided.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 13, wherein the gelling agent is selected from the group consisting of pectins, alginates and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 13, wherein the amorphous solid comprises an aerosol generating agent.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 17, wherein the aerosol generating agent is selected from the group consisting of erythritol, propylene glycol, glycerol and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 13, wherein the amorphous solid comprises less than 20 wt % of a filler by dry weight.

### Claim 20 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises that at least one active substance and/or flavorant, wherein the at least one active substance is a tobacco material having nicotine or a tobacco material that does not have nicotine.
