Abstract
An orthopaedic implant comprising a titanium substrate having silver deposited thereon, wherein the silver is operable to be eluted at a rate of at least 0.25 μg/cm2 24 h−1, for at least 14 consecutive days, in use. The invention also extends to a method of producing an orthopaedic implant and use of the same.
Claims18
An orthopaedic implant comprising:
- a passivated titanium substrate;
- silver deposited on the titanium substrate to form a silver titanate surface;
- and
- a polymer coating on the silver titanate surface, wherein the polymer coating operable to elute the silver into a patient's body into which the orthopaedic implant is implanted for at least 14 consecutive days.
1 more element
An orthopaedic implant comprising:
- a titanium substrate;
- silver, in a form of silver ions and/or silver nanoparticles, dispersed within the titanium substrate;
- and
- a polymer coating deposited over the silver;
- wherein the polymer coating is operable to elute the silver into a body into which the orthopaedic implant is implanted for at least 14 consecutive days;
- and
- wherein the orthopaedic implant further comprises at least one anchor point configured for anchoring the orthopaedic implant in place in the body, in use, and the at least one anchor point comprises at least one bushing that protects the silver deposited on the at least one anchor point during anchoring of the orthopaedic implant.
