Abstract
HCMV US11 based therapeutics that can be used to target and reduce the activity of the FcRn protein are provided. The compositions can be used in treatment of auto-immune mediated and albumin-mediated diseases in a subject HCMV US11, as well as for use in preventing, or treating, infections of HCMV through administration of a US11 inhibitor.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising an engineered, purified human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) US11 protein and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein said HCMV US11 protein is not associated with a HCMV virion.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising an engineered, purified HCMV US11-encoding nucleic acid and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein said HCMV US11-encoded nucleic acid is not associated with a HCMV virion.
