Abstract
The disclosure relates to isolated microorganisms—including novel strains of the microorganisms—microbial consortia, and agricultural compositions comprising the same. Furthermore, the disclosure teaches methods of utilizing the described microorganisms, microbial consortia, and agricultural compositions comprising the same, in methods for imparting beneficial properties to target plant species. In particular aspects, the disclosure provides methods of increasing desirable plant traits in agronomically important crop species.
Claims13
A method of reducing the amount of nitrogen-containing fertilizer applied to a plant, the method comprising applying an agriculturally acceptable composition to said plant, a part of said plant or to a growth medium comprising said plant or plant part, wherein the agriculturally acceptable composition comprises a stabilizer, a preservative, a dispersant, a freezing point depressant, a wetting agent, and an isolated bacterial species that comprises Paenibacillus polymyxa Strain 66545, which is deposited with the NRRL as Accession No. B-68114 deposit date 7 Apr. 2022;
- wherein the isolated bacterial species is exogenously disposed to said plant and present in an amount of at least about 10{circumflex over ( )}3 CFU per gram of the agriculturally acceptable composition;
- wherein the plant has elevated biomass or yield as compared to a control plant not having said isolated bacterial strain applied to it.
A synthetic composition, comprising:
- (a) a stabilizer, a preservative, a dispersant, a freezing point depressant, a wetting agent;
- and,
- (b) at least one isolated bacterial species, wherein the at least one bacterial species comprises Paenibacillus polymyxa Strain 66545, which is deposited with the NRRL as Accession No. B-68114 deposit date 7 Apr. 2022;
- and
- (c) a plant or plant part;
- wherein the at least one bacterial species is heterologous to the plant or plant part of (c) and is present in said synthetic composition at at least 1×10 3 bacterial cells per gram of synthetic composition.
