Abstract
Through the identification of different packet-types, packets can be handled based on an assigned packet handling identifier. This identifier can, for example, enable forwarding of latency-sensitive packets without delay and allow error-sensitive packets to be stored for possible retransmission. In another embodiment, and optionally in conjunction with retransmission protocols including a packet handling identifier, a memory used for retransmission of packets can be shared with other transceiver functionality such as, coding, decoding, interleaving, deinterleaving, error correction, and the like.
Claims49
A method of packet retransmission in a multicarrier transceiver comprising:
- allocating a memory between a retransmission function for a plurality of packets and an interleaving function for the plurality of packets, wherein the memory is allocated between the retransmission function and the interleaving function in accordance with a first message received during an initialization of the multicarrier transceiver and at least a portion of the memory is allocated to the retransmission function or the interleaving function at any one particular time depending at least on the first message;
- transmitting or receiving the plurality of packets;
- identifying at least one packet of the plurality of packets as a packet that should not be retransmitted.
An apparatus comprising:
- a multicarrier transceiver, including a processor, that:
- allocates a memory between a retransmission function and an interleaving function,
- wherein the memory is allocated between the retransmission function and the interleaving function in accordance with a first message received during an initialization of the multicarrier transceiver, and wherein at least a portion of the memory is allocated to the retransmission function or the interleaving function at any one particular time depending on the first message;
- transmits a packet using forward error correction encoding, and interleaves the packet using the allocated interleaver function memory, wherein the packet comprises a header field and a plurality of Reed-Solomon codewords, and wherein the header field comprises a sequence identifier (SID);
- and
- receives a second message using forward error correction decoding and without using deinterleaving, wherein the second message is received in a single DMT symbol, and wherein the second message includes an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK) of the transmitted packet.
An apparatus comprising:
- a multicarrier transceiver, including a processor, that:
- allocates a memory between a retransmission function and a deinterleaving function, wherein at least a portion of the memory is allocated to the retransmission function or the deinterleaving function at any one particular time, and wherein a first message transmitted during initialization indicates how the memory has been allocated between the retransmission function and the deinterleaving function;
- receives a packet using forward error correction decoding and, deinterleaves the packet using the allocated deinterleaver function memory, wherein the packet comprises a header field and a plurality of Reed-Solomon codewords, and wherein the header field comprises a sequence identifier (SID);
- and
- transmits a second message using forward error correction encoding and without using interleaving, wherein the second message is received in a single DMT symbol, and wherein the second message includes an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK) of the received packet.
An apparatus comprising:
- a multicarrier transceiver, including instructions stored on a non-transitory information storage media, the instructions, when executed, cause the multicarrier transceiver to:
- allocate a memory between a retransmission function and an interleaving function,
- wherein the memory is allocated between the retransmission function and the interleaving function in accordance with a first message received during an initialization of the multicarrier transceiver, and wherein at least a portion of the memory is allocated to the retransmission function or the interleaving function at any one particular time depending on the first message;
- transmit a packet using forward error correction encoding, and interleaves the packet using the allocated interleaver function memory, wherein the packet comprises a header field and a plurality of Reed-Solomon codewords, and wherein the header field comprises a sequence identifier (SID);
- and
- receive a second message using forward error correction decoding and without using deinterleaving, wherein the second message is received in a single DMT symbol, and wherein the second message includes an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK) of the transmitted packet.
An apparatus comprising:
- a multicarrier transceiver, including instructions stored on a non-transitory information storage media, the instructions, when executed, cause the multicarrier transceiver to:
- allocate a memory between a retransmission function and a deinterleaving function, wherein at least a portion of the memory is allocated to the retransmission function or the deinterleaving function at any one particular time, and wherein a first message transmitted during initialization indicates how the memory has been allocated between the retransmission function and the deinterleaving function;
- receive a packet using forward error correction decoding and, deinterleaves the packet using the allocated deinterleaver function memory, wherein the packet comprises a header field and a plurality of Reed-Solomon codewords, and wherein the header field comprises a sequence identifier (SID);
- and
- transmit a second message using forward error correction encoding and without using interleaving, wherein the second message is received in a single DMT symbol, and wherein the second message includes an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK) of the received packet.
