Abstract
A method of producing chlorine dioxide is disclosed. The method may include feeding a reaction mixture into a separator. The reaction mixture may follow a helical path through the separator and produce gaseous chlorine dioxide within the separator. Gaseous chlorine dioxide may be withdrawn from the separator and used to disinfect process water.
Claims17
A method of producing chlorine dioxide, comprising:
- mixing a first solution and a second solution in a mixing device to form a reaction mixture;
- feeding the reaction mixture into a separator;
- directing the reaction mixture in a helical path through the separator;
- reacting the first solution with the second solution to produce gaseous chlorine dioxide within the separator;
- and
- withdrawing the gaseous chlorine dioxide from the separator;
- wherein the helical path is defined by a plurality of plates disposed within the separator, and wherein the helical path is defined by a tube having a coiled configuration having a coil plane angle of about 1 degree to about 60 degrees.
