Abstract
A method is provided for identifying an anomaly in a communications network, the communications network covering a geographical area. The method comprises defining a plurality of regions within the geographical area. A measurement of a network performance characteristic is received from a user equipment, UE, connected to the communications network. The measurement is associated with a geographical location. A region of the plurality of regions which contains the geographical location is identified, and it is determined that there is an anomaly in the communications network within the identified region.
Claims20
A method of determining whether an anomaly indicative of a possible fault in a communications network exists, the communications network covering a geographical area, the method comprising:
- defining a plurality of regions within the geographical area;
- receiving a measurement of a network performance characteristic from a user equipment, UE, connected to the communications network, the measurement associated with a geographical location;
- identifying a region of the plurality of regions which contains the geographical location;
- and
- determining that an anomaly indicative of a possible fault in the communications network exists within the identified region by identifying a change in the measured network performance characteristic relative to a previously received measurement of the network performance characteristic.
A network monitoring tool for fault monitoring in a communications network, the tool comprising memory and a processor configured by instructions stored in the memory to perform a method of determining whether an anomaly indicative of a possible fault in a communications network exists, the communications network covering a geographical area, the processor configured to:
- define a plurality of regions within the geographical area;
- receive a measurement of a network performance characteristic from a user equipment, UE, connected to the communications network, the measurement associated with a geographical location;
- identify a region of the plurality of regions which contains the geographical location;
- and
- determine that an anomaly indicative of a possible fault in the communications network exists within the identified region by identifying a change in the measured network performance characteristic relative to a previously received measurement of the network performance characteristic.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising instructions stored therein that, when accessed, configure a processor to:
- define a plurality of regions within a geographical area covered by a communications network;
- receive a measurement of a network performance characteristic from a user equipment, UE, connected to the communications network, the measurement associated with a geographical location;
- identify a region of the plurality of regions, wherein the region contains the geographical location;
- identify a change based on comparing the measured network performance characteristic with a previously received measurement of the network performance characteristic;
- and
- based on the change, determine that an anomaly indicative of a fault in the communications network exists within the identified region.
