Abstract
A method is presented for supporting SNCP over a packet network connecting to two SDH sub-networks and transporting one or more SDH paths that are SNCP-protected in both SDH sub-networks. The packet network connects to each of two sub-network interconnection points by a working path and a protection path. The packet sub-network may provide the same type of path protection as an SDH sub-network using SNCP, while avoiding bandwidth duplication.
Claims19
A method for providing a path protection between first and second networks using first, second, third, and fourth Ethernet switches connected over a packet-based network, each of the Ethernet switches comprising in a respective enclosure a first connector, a second connector, and a third connector, the method comprising:
- connecting the first connector of the first Ethernet switch to the first network;
- connecting the first connector of the second Ethernet switch to the first network;
- connecting the first connector of the third Ethernet switch to the second network;
- connecting the first connector of the fourth Ethernet switch to the second network;
- configuring a first Pseudo-Wire (PW) connection over the packet-based network between the second connector of the first Ethernet switch and the second connector of the third Ethernet switch;
- configuring a second Pseudo-Wire (PW) connection over the packet-based network between the third connector of the first Ethernet switch and the second connector of the fourth Ethernet switch;
- configuring a third Pseudo-Wire (PW) connection over the packet-based network between the second connector of the second Ethernet switch and the third connector of the third Ethernet switch;
- configuring a fourth Pseudo-Wire (PW) connection over the packet-based network between the third connector of the second Ethernet switch and the third connector of the fourth Ethernet switch;
- and
- configuring at least one data path between the first and second networks in case of a failure in any one of the Ethernet switches or in any one of the Pseudo-Wire (PW) connections,
- wherein the packet-based network consists of, supports, or provides, a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network that uses, is based on, or supports, Multi-Protocol Label Switching—Transport Profile (MPLS-TP).
