Abstract
A window can be used for object detection and/or identification. The window can have a first side and a second side. An optical grating can be operatively positioned with respect to the first side of the window. A light source can be configured to emit light toward the optical grating. A detector can be operatively positioned to acquire spectroscopic data of the light emitted from the light source after the light has interacted with the optical grating. Using the optical grating, a temperature at or near the first side can be determined. Based on the temperature, it can be determined whether an object is located on the first side of the window.
Claims20
A system for window-based object detection and/or identification, comprising:
- a window, the window including a first side and a second side, the first side being a first major face of the window, the second side being a second major face of the window, the first side being opposite the second side, the window including an optical grating operatively positioned on the first side;
- a light source operatively positioned on the first side and configured to emit light toward the optical grating;
- a detector operatively positioned on the first side and operatively positioned to acquire spectroscopic data of the light emitted from the light source after the light has interacted with the optical grating;
- and
- a processor operatively connected to the detector, wherein the processor is configured to:
- determine a temperature based on the spectroscopic data;
- and
- determine, based on the temperature, whether an object is located on the first side of the window.
A method for window-based object detection and/or identification, a window having a first side and a second side, the first side being a first major face of the window, the second side being a second major face of the window, an optical grating operatively positioned on the first side of the window, a light source operatively positioned on the first side and configured to emit light toward the optical grating, a detector operatively positioned on the first side and operatively positioned to acquire spectroscopic data of the light emitted from the light source after the light has interacted with the optical grating, the method comprising:
- determining, using the optical grating, a temperature at or near the first side of the window;
- and
- determining, based on the temperature, whether an object is located on the first side of the window.
