Electrochromic element

An electrochromic element comprising:

• a first electrode;
• a second electrode to face the first electrode with a gap between the first electrode and the second electrode;
• an electrolyte layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode;
• and
• a layer including an electrochromic compound represented by General Formula (1), where the layer is disposed on or above the first electrode,
• where, in General Formula (1), R1 to R4 are each a monovalent organic group in which no hydrogen atom is present at an atom which directly connects to a benzene ring, and at least one of and not all of R1 to R4 each has a polymerizable functional group as a terminal group;
• and R5 to R28 are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an alkoxy group, where R25 and R28, or R26 and R27 may be bonded together to form a structure represented by General Formula (2),
• where, in General Formula (2), R29 and R30 are each an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, or an aryl group, where R29 and R30 may be bonded via a common bond to form a cyclic structure when R29 and R30 are both aryl groups.
