Abstract
Low and medium pressure, high temperature, fluid washers for pressure cleaning surfaces, vessels, piping, tubing, and other structures having a tri-plex pump downstream of a fluid heater in which the high pressure pump employs a barrier seal system with circulating fluid.
Claims20
A pressurized fluid cleaning system, comprising:
- a fluid supply tank containing a fluid at atmospheric pressure;
- a first pump having an inlet plumbed to the tank, a recirculation port plumbed to the tank, a primary fluid outlet, and an auxiliary fluid outlet, wherein the first pump pressurizes the fluid drawn from the tank to between 55 psig and 250 psig;
- a fluid heater having a fluid inlet plumbed to receive the pressurized fluid from the first pump primary fluid outlet, the heater comprising a heat exchanger system that transfers heat to the fluid flowing through the heat exchanger to raise the fluid temperature to between 150° F. and 375° F.;
- a second pump plumbed to receive the heated fluid and to increase the pressure of the heated fluid to between 2,500 psig and 10,000 psig, the second pump having a barrier seal defining a chamber around a pump plunger, a chamber inlet plumbed to the auxiliary fluid outlet on the first pump;
- and a chamber outlet plumbed to the tank to return fluid circulated through the chamber to the tank;
- a second pump bypass conduit plumbed to bypass the second pump;
- and
- a fluid manifold plumbed to receive fluid from either the second pump or the bypass conduit and to discharge fluid to one or more pressure washing equipment.

A pressurized fluid cleaning system, comprising:
- a fluid supply tank having a fluid inlet valve, a first fluid temperature sensor, and a fluid level sensor, the tank configured to contain a fluid at atmospheric pressure;
- a booster pump coupled to a hydraulic motor and having an inlet plumbed to the tank, a recirculation port plumbed to the tank, a primary fluid outlet, and an auxiliary fluid outlet, wherein the hydraulic motor drives the booster pump to pressurize the fluid drawn from the tank to between 100 psig and 200 psig;
- a Diesel fuel fluid heater having a fluid inlet plumbed to receive the pressurized fluid from the booster pump from the primary outlet, the heater comprising a heat exchanger system that transfers heat to the fluid flowing through the heat exchanger to raise the fluid temperature to between 200° F. and 375° F.;
- a first pressure sensor plumbed between the booster pump and the heater;
- a high pressure pump plumbed to the heater to receive the heated fluid and to increase the pressurization of the heated fluid to between 2,500 and 5,000 psig, the high pressure pump having an insert ring defining a first chamber between an outer surface of a pump plunger and a first surface of the insert ring, the insert ring also defining a second chamber between an inner surface of the pump and a second surface of the insert ring, and one or more fluid ports in the insert ring communicating between the first and second chambers, a second chamber inlet plumbed to the auxiliary fluid outlet on the booster pump;
- and a second chamber outlet plumbed to the tank to return fluid circulated from the booster pump through the first and second chambers to the tank;
- a second pressure sensor and a second temperature sensor plumbed between the heater and the high pressure pump;
- a high pressure pump bypass conduit plumbed to bypass the high pressure pump with one or more first controllable valves;
- a fluid manifold plumbed to receive fluid from either the high pressure pump or the bypass conduit and to discharge fluid to one or more pressure washing equipment through one or more second controllable valves;
- a third pressure sensor plumbed between the high pressure pump and the manifold;
- a Diesel engine supplying pressurized hydraulic fluid to the booster pump motor and supplying rotational power to the high pressure pump;
- and
- a controller having a communication component, a memory component, a display component, and processing component operatively arranged and configured to receive information from one or more of the sensors and to send one or more control signals to one or more of the first and/or second controllable valves.
