Abstract
Cyanoacrylate-containing compositions that include, in addition to the cyanoacrylate component, an anhydride and a toughening agent comprising a co-polymer of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl acetate are provided.
Claims19
A cyanoacrylate composition, comprising:
- (a) a cyanoacrylate component,
- (b) an anhydride component present in an amount of about 0.05 to about 1.5 percent by weight, wherein the anhydride component is 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, and
- (c) a polyvinyl chloride/polyvinyl acetate co-polymer;
- wherein the polyvinyl chloride/polyvinyl acetate co-polymer is made from a ratio of vinyl chloride units to vinyl acetate units of about 61:39 and is present in an amount of about 10 percent by weight to about 25 percent by weight;
- wherein the anhydride component is present in an amount of about 0.05 to about 1.5 percent by weight;
- wherein the polyvinyl chloride/polyvinyl acetate co-polymer and the anhydride component are present in a by weight ratio of about 40:1 to about 25:1.
