Abstract
Luminescent concrete compositions containing cement, fine aggregates such as sand, and a phosphor such as strontium aluminate. Glow-in-the-dark concrete products made therefrom and methods of producing such concrete products are also specified. The glow-in-the-dark concrete products demonstrate good mechanical strength (e.g. compressive strength) and skid resistance. The addition of phosphorescent strontium aluminate provides luminance that persists for up to 10 hours to the concrete products.
Claims10
An interlocking concrete block having a glow surface, comprising:
- a base concrete block having a rectangle cuboid shape, and
- a cured luminescent concrete layer,
- wherein at least a portion of a surface a single side of the base concrete block is coated with the cured luminescent concrete layer, wherein the cured luminescent concrete layer comprises a cured luminescent concrete and has a skid resistance value of 100-150;
- and
- wherein the cured luminescent concrete comprises:
- a cement;
- a fine aggregate comprising sand;
- and
- phosphorescent aluminate particles,
- wherein a weight ratio of the phosphorescent aluminate particles to the fine aggregate is in the range of 1:2 to 1:20;
- and
- wherein the cured luminescent concrete has an intensity of glow of 2-15 candelas per square meter for a period of 0.1-10 hours upon excitation with sun light for 2-20 minutes.
