Abstract
A novel catalyst composition and its use in the dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins. The catalyst comprises a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof, and a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, indium, phosphorous, zinc, and combinations thereof, on a support. The catalyst composition is an active and selective catalyst for the catalytic dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins.
Claims12
A process for dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins comprising:
- providing a supported metal alloy catalyst consisting of nickel and indium, and a support selected from the group consisting of silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide and combinations thereof;
- and
- contacting the supported metal alloy catalyst with a feedstream comprising one or more C2 to C5+ alkanes at reaction conditions sufficient to dehydrogenate a portion of the one or more C2 to C5+ alkanes to one or more C2 to C5+ olefins.
A supported metal alloy catalyst composition comprising:
- a metal alloy consisting of nickel and indium;
- and
- a support,
- wherein the indium is present in an amount from 0.001 to 30 wt % on an elemental basis of the metal alloy and present, at least partially in a metallic phase and at least partially in an alloy phase.
