Media system and method of accommodating hearing loss using a personalized audio filter

A media system, comprising:

• memory comprising a plurality of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters, each of the plurality of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters having a predetermined gain contour;
• and
• one or more processors configured to:
• playback one or more level audio signals by a speaker,
• lock, during playback of the one or more level audio signals, a volume control of the media system to prevent volume adjustments of the media system,
• receive, in response to the playback of the one or more level audio signals by the speaker, a selection of an audibility selection element indicating a personal gain level of a user,
• determine from the plurality of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters, a subset of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters, wherein each of the subset of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters is associated with the personal gain level of the user;
• receive, in response to playback of a plurality of shape audio signals based on the subset of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters, a selection of a tuning element indicating a personal gain contour of the user, and
• determine a personal audio filter of the user based in part on the personal audio filter having the personal gain level and the personal gain contour, wherein the personal audio filter is one of the subset of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters and is configured to amplify an audio input signal based on an input level and an input frequency of the audio input signal.

A non-transitory computer readable medium containing instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of a media system, cause the media system to perform a method comprising:

• receive, in response to playback of one or more level audio signals by a speaker, a selection of an audibility selection element indicating a personal gain level of a user;
• receive, in response to playback of a plurality of shape audio signals, a selection of a tuning element indicating a personal gain contour of the user, wherein the personal gain contour of the user comprises an average gain level corresponding to the personal gain level of the user;
• and
• determine a personal audio filter of the user based in part on the personal audio filter having the personal gain level and the personal gain contour, wherein the personal audio filter is one of a plurality of level-and-frequency-dependent audio filters and is configured to amplify an audio input signal based on an input level and an input frequency of the audio input signal.
