Abstract
Various embodiments herein provide techniques for synchronization signal block (SSB) configuration for wireless cellular networks. The SSB may be for carrier frequencies above 52.6 gigahertz (GHz). Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media (NTCRM) having instructions, stored thereon, that when executed by one or more processors cause a next-generation Node B (gNB) to:
- apply a pi/2 Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation to a primary synchronization signal (PSS) sequence and/or a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) sequence to generate a modulated sequence;
- apply a Fourier Transform (FT) to the modulated sequence to generate an FT output that maps the PSS and/or SSS sequences to subcarriers in a frequency domain;
- and
- apply an inverse FT on the FT output to generate a time-domain signal for a PSS and/or an SSS for transmission;
- wherein a physical cell ID and a synchronization signal block (SSB) index within an SSB burst set is indicated by a combination of the PSS, the SSS, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), and an explicit indication in a physical broadcast channel (PBCH).
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media (NTCRM) having instructions, stored thereon, that when executed by one or more processors cause a next-generation Node B (gNB) to:
- apply a pi/2 Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation to a primary synchronization signal (PSS) sequence and/or a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) sequence to generate a modulated sequence;
- apply a Fourier Transform (FT) to the modulated sequence to generate an FT output that maps the PSS and/or SSS sequences to subcarriers in a frequency domain;
- and
- apply an inverse FT on the FT output to generate a time-domain signal for a PSS and/or an SSS for transmission;
- wherein a length of the SSS is less than a bandwidth of the SSS, and wherein the SSS is transmitted using distributed transmission on a per-physical resource block (PRB) or a per-resource element (RE) basis.
An apparatus of a next-generation Node B (gNB), the apparatus comprising:
- a memory to store a primary synchronization signal (PSS) sequence and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) sequence;
- and
- processor circuitry coupled to the memory, the processor circuitry to:
- apply a pi/2 Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation to the PSS sequence and the SSS sequence to generate a modulated sequence;
- apply a Fourier Transform (FT) to the modulated sequence to generate an FT output that maps the PSS and SSS sequences to subcarriers in a frequency domain;
- and
- apply an inverse FT on the FT output to generate a time-domain signal for a PSS and an SSS for transmission;
- wherein the PSS includes partial physical cell ID information, wherein the SSS includes additional cell ID information and partial synchronization signal block (SSB) index or beam index information within an SSB burst set or an SSB periodicity, and wherein additional SSB index or beam index information is indicated by a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) associated with a physical broadcast channel (PBCH).
