Layered thermal insulation system and thermal insulation products fabricated therefrom

A layered thermal insulation system, wherein said system is generally conformable to three-dimensioned surfaces of heat-producing element to be insulated, whereby, in use, an exposed surface of the layered thermal insulation system has a temperature of less than 150° C. when said surface of said element has a temperature of up to 650° C., the system comprising:

• i) an inner high temperature resistant insulation layer, wherein the inner high temperature resistant insulation layer comprises a woven fibrous material comprising inorganic fibres selected from a group comprising silica fibres, glass fibres, silica glass, e-glass, refractory ceramic fibres, mineral wool fibres or mixtures thereof;
• ii) an outer high temperature resistant insulation layer directly adjacent to and thicker than the inner high temperature resistant insulation layer, wherein the outer high temperature resistant insulation layer comprises a non-woven fibrous material comprising inorganic fibres selected from a group comprising silica fibres, glass fibres, silica glass, e-glass, refractory ceramic fibres, mineral wool fibres or mixtures thereof;
• and,
• iii) a first reflection layer and a second reflection layer, each of said reflection layers being formed of a non-absorbent metal foil arranged to prevent passage of fluid through aforesaid layers, the first reflection layer being directly adjacent the inner high temperature insulation layer such that, in use, an opposing surface thereof is in close proximity to said surfaces of said element to be insulated, the second reflection layer being directly adjacent the outer high temperature insulation layer such that, in use, an opposing surface thereof comprises said exposed surface,
• wherein respective edges of the first and second reflection layers and the inner high temperature resistant insulation layer are fastened together with stitches of heat resistant thread.
