Abstract
A system and method for dynamically a visual function of a subject are provided where the system and method account for fixation eye movement(s); saccade eye movement (s); smooth pursuit eye movement(s); optokinetic nystagmus eye movement(s); and/or blink eye movement, the system for dynamically assessing a visual function of a subject is provided, comprising: i) a visual display; ii) an eye-tracking device configured to detect a gaze position of at least one eye of the subject; and updating in real time the appearance of a first stimulus to provide a second stimulus based on at least on of the updated evidence-of-visibility score and the updated evidence-of-trackability score for the first visual stimulus.
Claims20
A system for dynamically assessing a visual function of a subject, comprising:
- i) a visual display;
- ii) an eye-tracking device configured to detect a gaze position of at least one eye of the subject;
- iii) one or more processors operably connected to the visual display and the eye-tracking device;
- iv) a non-transitory memory operably connected to the one or more processors and including machine executable code that when executed by the one or more processors performs the steps of:
- a) presenting for a first defined amount of time a first stimulus at a first location on the visual display;
- b) storing first stimulus information associated with the first stimulus, the first stimulus information including:
- i. first stimulus location information associated with a location of the first stimulus on the visual display for the first predetermined amount of time;
- and
- ii. first stimulus time stamp information associated with the first stimulus location information;
- c) receiving in real time, from the eye-tracking device, for the predetermined amount of time, first tracking data comprising:
- i. first gaze point information associated with a first point on the visual display to which the eye is directed during the predetermined amount of time;
- ii. first position information associated with a 3D position of the eye over the predetermined amount of time;
- and
- iii. first gaze point time stamp information associated with the gaze point information and the position information;
- d) storing the first tracking data in the non-transitory memory associated with the first stimulus;
- e) determining, for the first stimulus, a dynamic evidence-of-visibility score and a dynamic evidence-of-trackability score based at least on the tracking data and the first stimulus information;
- f) storing in the non-transitory memory, associated with the first stimulus:
- i. the dynamic evidence-of-visibility score;
- and
- ii. the dynamic evidence-of-trackability score;
- g) analyzing the stored first tracking data to determine a presence of one or more of:
- i. fixation eye movement(s);
- ii. saccade eye movement(s);
- iii. smooth pursuit eye movement(s);
- and
- iv. blink(s);
- h) analyzing the first tracking data obtained via the eye-tracking device to identify for the eye, relative to the first stimulus:
- i. position-matched tracking eye movements;
- ii. trajectory-matched tracking eye movements;
- and
- iii. saccade-based tracking eye movements;
- i) updating, in real time, the dynamic evidence-of-visibility score and/or the evidence-of-trackability score associated with the first stimulus based on at least one of any eye movements detected in step g) and step h);
- and
- j) updating in real time the appearance of the first stimulus to provide a second stimulus based on at least one of the updated evidence-of-visibility score and the updated evidence-of-trackability score for the first visual stimulus.
