Abstract
A glazing unit is provided for producing an aesthetically pleasing effect. The glazing unit may include at least one polymer with a first structured surface to which a photonic structure is applied. The surface can reflect a first partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation, and can transmit a second partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation. A reflected proportion corresponds to a higher harmonic and is in a visible spectral range.
Claims17
A glazing unit comprising:
- a substrate comprising at least one polymer, and having a first structured surface with a RMS roughness of 30 nm to 100 μm to which a photonic layer structure is applied, the photonic layer structure having a mean refractive index greater than 1.6, wherein the photonic layer structure comprising first layers containing a first material having a first refractive index, and second layers containing a second material having a second refractive index, the first refractive index between 1.5 and 2.2 and the second refractive index between 1.8 and 2.5, further wherein the second refractive index is higher than the first refractive index,
- wherein the photonic layer structure comprising a Bragg filter being configured to:
- reflect a first partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation;
- and
- transmit a second partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation, the reflected first partial spectrum including a reflection peak corresponding to a higher harmonic than a main reflection maximum, the reflection peak being in a visible spectral range.
A method for producing a glazing unit comprising at least one photonic layer structure and a substrate comprising a polymer, the method comprising:
- providing a substrate comprising a polymer,
- producing a first structured surface on the substrate having a RMS roughness of 30 nm to 100 μm;
- and
- applying the photonic layer structure to the first structured surface, the photonic layer structure comprising first layers containing a first material having a first refractive index, and second layers containing a second material having a second refractive index, wherein the first refractive index is between 1.5 and 2.2 and the second refractive index is between 1.8 and 2.5, and wherein the second refractive index is higher than the first refractive index,
- the photonic layer structure constituting a Bragg filter and having a mean refractive index greater than 1.6 and the photonic layer structure configured to reflect a first partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation and configured to transmit a second partial spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation, wherein the reflected first partial spectrum includes a reflection peak that corresponds to a higher harmonic than a main reflection maximum and is in a visible spectral range.
