Abstract
A light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system may include a laser source configured to emit one or more optical beams; a scanning optical system configured to scan the one or more optical beams over a scene and capture reflections of the one or more optical beams from the scene; a measurement system configured to divide the scene into a plurality of pixels, the measurement system comprising a detector configured to detect a return signal from multiple pixels of the plurality of pixels as the one or more optical beams are scanned across the scene, and a data processor configured to perform data processing from the return signal from the multiple pixels to determine a range and/or range rate for each pixel of the scene.
Claims15
A light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system, comprising:
- a laser source configured to emit one or more optical beams;
- a scanning optical system configured to scan the one or more optical beams over a scene and capture reflections of the one or more optical beams from the scene,
- a measurement system configured to divide the scene into a plurality of pixels, the measurement system comprising a detector configured to detect a return signal from multiple pixels of the plurality of pixels as the one or more optical beams are scanned across the scene, and
- a data processor configured to perform data processing comprising a sliding-window data processing from the return signal from the multiple pixels to determine a range and/or range rate for each pixel of the scene;
- wherein the laser source is configured to emit the one or more optical beams having a frequency chirp extending over a plurality of the multiple pixels.
A light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system, comprising:
- a laser source configured to emit one or more optical beams;
- a scanning optical system configured to scan the one or more optical beams over a scene and capture reflections of the one or more optical beams from the scene,
- a measurement system configured to divide the scene into a plurality of pixels, the measurement system comprising a multiplicity of detectors, wherein for each pixel of the plurality of pixels a first detector of the multiplicity of detectors is arranged along a scanning axis of the scanning optical system and a second detector of the multiplicity of detectors is arranged spatially separated from the first detector, wherein the first detector determines a first range, and the second detector determines a second range larger than the first range;
- and
- wherein the multiplicity of detectors are spatially staggered, wherein each of the detectors of the multiplicity of detectors only detects a return signal from a subset of target ranges.
A staring coherent light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system, comprising:
- a frequency modulated laser configured to emit one or more optical beams;
- an optical system configured to emit the one or more optical beams to a scene and to capture reflections of the one or more optical beams,
- a measurement system configured to divide the scene into a plurality of pixels, the measurement system comprising a detector array comprising a plurality of detectors, and configured to simultaneously determine a return signal from multiple pixels of the plurality of pixels of the scene, and mix the return signal from multiple pixels with one or more local oscillator beams to determine a range and/or range rate for each of the multiple pixels;
- wherein the detector array is a first detector array, and the measurement system further comprises a second detector array configured to perform optical balancing of the first detector array.
