Abstract
Systems and methods for measuring analytes in fluid samples are disclosed. The systems and methods employ test strips which are generally comprised of a substrate, at least one electrical connection, at least one sensing chemistry and at least one additional layer. The test strips can be batch calibrated.
Claims26
A system for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in a fluid sample, the system comprising:
- a base substrate;
- a first electrode pair disposed over the substrate;
- and
- a conversion chamber adapted for producing an altered analyte by oxidizing or reducing the at least one analyte in the fluid sample;
- an active sensing chemistry in electrical communication with the first electrode pair,
- wherein the active sensing chemistry is responsive to the altered analyte, and
- wherein the active sensing chemistry forms an irreversible chemical bond with the altered analyte;
- and
- a test strip chamber housing the active sensing chemistry,
- wherein the test strip chamber is adapted to trap at least a portion of the altered analyte.
A method for determining the concentration of an analyte in a fluid sample, said method comprising:
- providing a system for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in a fluid sample, the system comprising:
- a base substrate;
- a first electrode pair disposed over the substrate;
- a conversion chamber adapted for producing an altered analyte by oxidizing or reducing the at least one analyte in the fluid sample;
- an active sensing chemistry in electrical communication with the first electrode pair;
- wherein the active sensing chemistry is responsive to the altered analyte;
- and
- a test strip chamber housing the active sensing chemistry;
- and
- trapping at least a portion of the altered analyte in the test strip chamber;
- wherein the active sensing chemistry forms an irreversible chemical bond with the altered analyte;
- and
- measuring at least one of a voltage across the first electrode pair, a resistance across the first electrode pair, and a current flow across the first electrode pair.
A system for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in a fluid sample, the system comprising:
- a base substrate;
- a first electrode pair disposed over the substrate;
- an active sensing chemistry in electrical communication with the first electrode pair;
- wherein the active sensing chemistry is responsive to the analyte, wherein the active sensing chemistry forms an irreversible chemical bond with the analyte, and wherein the active sensing chemistry is a coffee ring shape bridging the electrode pair;
- and
- a test strip chamber housing the active sensing chemistry,
- wherein the test strip chamber is adapted to trap at least a portion of the analyte.
A method for determining the concentration of an analyte in a fluid sample, said method comprising:
- providing a system for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in a fluid sample, the system comprising:
- a base substrate,
- a first electrode pair disposed over the substrate,
- an active sensing chemistry in electrical communication with the first electrode pair,
- wherein the active sensing chemistry is responsive to the analyte and
- wherein the active sensing chemistry is a coffee ring shape bridging the electrode pair;
- and
- a test strip chamber housing the active sensing chemistry;
- and
- trapping at least a portion of the analyte in the test strip chamber;
- wherein the active sensing chemistry forms an irreversible chemical bond with the analyte;
- and
- measuring at least one of a voltage across the first electrode pair, a resistance across the first electrode pair, and a current flow across the first electrode pair.
