Abstract
A tile saw comprising a base, a table supported by the base and configured to support a workpiece, a guide rail upon which the table is supported and moveable along a longitudinal axis, a saw unit coupled to the base, and a roller assembly for supporting the table upon the guide rail. The roller assembly includes a first roller rotatably supported by the table and engaged with a first portion of the guide rail, and a second roller rotatably supported by the table and engaged with a second portion of the guide rail that is different than the first portion. The second roller is translatable relative to the table in a direction toward the guide rail. The roller assembly further includes a spring biasing the second roller toward the guide rail.
Claims15
A tile saw comprising:
- a base;
- a table supported by the base and configured to support a workpiece;
- a guide rail upon which the table is supported and moveable along a longitudinal axis;
- a saw unit coupled to the base and including a saw blade that is configured to cut the workpiece as the table moves along the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a roller assembly for supporting the table upon the guide rail, the roller assembly including
- a first roller rotatably supported by the table and engaged with a first portion of the guide rail,
- a second roller rotatably supported by the table via a shaft, the second roller is engaged with a second portion of the guide rail that is different than the first portion and the second roller is translatable relative to the table in a direction toward the guide rail,
- a spring biasing the second roller toward the guide rail, and
- a fastening mechanism coupled to the shaft of the second roller and configured to clamp the second roller to the guide rail in response to a compressive force being exerted on the table between the fastening mechanism and the shaft to stop the second roller from moving toward or away from the guide rail,
- wherein the table includes a slot and the shaft is received within the slot,
- wherein the slot supports the shaft for translation in a vertical direction that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and
- wherein the spring extends into the slot to bias the shaft in the vertical direction.
A method of assembling a tile saw, the tile saw including a base upon which a guide rail is coupled, a table moveably coupled to the guide rail along a longitudinal axis, a roller assembly to support the table on the guide rail, and a saw unit coupled to the base and having a saw blade that is configured to cut a workpiece, the method comprising the steps of:
- aligning and engaging an upper roller and a lower roller of the roller assembly with the guide rail;
- biasing the lower roller of the roller assembly into contact with a portion of the guide rail via a spring including translating, in a vertical direction that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, a shaft of the lower roller through a slot in the table, wherein the spring extends into the slot;
- maintaining the spring within the slot via a plug coupled to the table, thereby seating the spring between the plug and the shaft;
- and
- locking the lower roller via a compressive force to the table into a fixed position relative to the portion of the guide rail, such that contact is maintained between the lower roller and the portion of the guide rail, and the lower roller is stopped from moving toward or away from the guide rail.
A tile saw comprising:
- a base;
- a table supported by the base and configured to support a workpiece;
- a guide rail upon which the table is supported and moveable along a longitudinal axis;
- a saw unit coupled to the base and including a saw blade that is configured to cut the workpiece as the table moves along the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a roller assembly for supporting the table upon the guide rail, the roller assembly including
- a first roller rotatably supported by the table and engaged with a first portion of the guide rail,
- a second roller rotatably supported by the table via a shaft, the second roller is engaged with a second portion of the guide rail that is different than the first portion and the second roller is translatable relative to the table in a direction toward the guide rail,
- a spring biasing the second roller toward the guide rail, and
- a fastening mechanism coupled to the shaft of the second roller and configured to clamp the second roller to the guide rail in response to a compressive force being exerted on the table between the fastening mechanism and the shaft to stop the second roller from moving toward or away from the guide rail,
- wherein the table includes a slot, and wherein the shaft is received within the slot,
- wherein the slot supports the shaft for translation in a vertical direction that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis,
- wherein the spring extends into the slot to bias the shaft in the vertical direction, and
- wherein the table includes an aperture having a first end in communication with the slot and an opposite, second end, wherein the spring is at least partly positioned in the aperture, and wherein the roller assembly further comprises a plug closing the second end of the aperture, thereby seating the spring between the plug and the shaft.
