Abstract
A system for charged particle therapy verification, comprising a first detector configured for detection of secondary particles emitted from a target irradiated with a charged particle beam, wherein the detector is configured to cause at least two consecutive elastic scatters in the detector for secondary particles of fast neutrons and two consecutive incoherent scatters followed by a third scatter, being one of: photoelectric effect, incoherent scatter or pair production for secondary particles of prompt gamma-ray types.
Claims13
A system for charged particle therapy verification, comprising:
- a detector comprising an array of optically segmented scintillator elements, the detector configured for detection of secondary particles emitted from a target irradiated with a charged particle beam, wherein:
- the detector is configured to produce at least two consecutive elastic (n,p) scatters in a sensitive volume of the detector for secondary fast neutrons, and two consecutive incoherent scatters followed by a third scatter event of any kind for the detection of secondary prompt gamma-rays, wherein the at least two consecutive elastic (n,p) scatters, the two consecutive incoherent scatters, and the third scatter event of any kind are detected in distinct scintillator elements of the array of optically segmented scintillator elements.
A method for charged particle therapy verification, comprising:
- detecting, by a system comprising a detector, secondary particles emitted from a target irradiated with a charged particle beam, wherein the detector is configured for producing at least two consecutive elastic (n,p) scatters in a sensitive volume of the detector for secondary fast neutrons, and two consecutive incoherent scatters followed by a third scatter event of any kind for the detection of prompt gamma-rays, wherein the at least two consecutive elastic (n,p) scatters, the two consecutive incoherent scatters, and the third scatter event of any kind are detected in distinct scintillator elements.
