Asynchronous switching system and method

An apparatus for switching video signals and cleaning up a resulting video output comprising:

• initially source A provides data to buffer A which provides data to a cleaner;
• thereafter source A ceases to provide data to buffer A and source B provides data to buffer B whereupon the cleaner loops back to replay a portion of buffer A while buffer B is receiving data;
• and,
• when buffer B includes a video frame boundary the cleaner ceases to receive data from buffer A and starts to receive data from buffer B.
